The “Why”
Hi, I’m Dr. Heather Miles. My journey in education and psychology began at my dream school, UCLA, but my true "why" was born in a classroom.
Early in my career as a kindergarten teacher I realized that, despite my best efforts, I was consistently missing the mark for about 20% of my students—those performing in the highest and lowest 10%. This realization wasn't just a professional observation; it was a personal call to action. I knew these students needed more than a standard curriculum; they needed a champion who understood their unique educational and emotional needs.
Driven by that '20%,' I spent the next 14 years expanding my toolkit. I became a School Psychologist and, eventually a School Administrator, focusing deeply on special education. Whether I was assessing a single student or supporting staff across 50 different schools, my heart was always in finding the right key to unlock a student’s potential.
The "Detour" That Led Me Home
Transitioning from an aspiring child psychologist to a school psychologist felt like a detour—until a dinner conversation with my children reminded me that it’s never too late to finish the journey. To model lifelong learning, I went back to school for my doctorate, launched Any Child Can Learn, and earned a College Counseling Certificate from UCLA. My goal? Guiding neurodiverse individuals from early education through college, bridging the gap between academic success and lifelong career fulfillment. Tailored support shouldn't stop at high school graduation. Whether I am navigating a diagnosis with a family, mentoring a college student, or guiding a professional, my mission is absolute: giving every individual the resources to prove that anyone, child or adult, can learn.
